the bourgeoisie is alive and well in rural america
the bourgeoisie describes a social class "characterized by their ownership of capital, and their related culture"; hence, the personal terms bourgeois (masculine) and bourgeoise (feminine) culturally identify the man or woman who is a member of the wealthiest social class of a given society, and their materialistic worldview
Today I drove by a piece of land that had been long on my "ooh and ahh, that would be a perfect homestead" farm list. Today it had a for sale by owner sign. I called.
I can hardly describe the disgust I feel when I find that someone is trying to sell land near my home to "recreational users" for ten thousand dollars an acre. Honestly, land near us goes for three thousand an acre at the MOST when it has a trout stream running through it.
These are the people that are making farming and rural life impossible in America for the peasant. Our area is becoming a playground for the city rich who like to come out here once or twice a year to their 50 acres and get their big buck then go home and leave the land to lay fallow until they come up for their pleasure again. It is sickening.
God help the farmers and the farmer wannabees!
